The Challenge

Flightpath and the design team at AOL Video enjoy a history of collaboration that has resulted in superlative numbers for the internet’s most popular video portal. Throughout 2007 and 2008, we’ve teamed up on a variety of projects including UI and visual design of their Vista Desktop Gadget, improvements to a series of discrete user paths, a succession of navigation studies, and an overall redesign: something "fresh," with a striking layout and improved search functionality to enhance and simplify the portal’s user experience while effectively incorporating legacy personalization, preferred feature sets, and optimum presentation of video content from site stakeholders like ABC, Hulu and CBS.

The Solution

Flightpath opened its design process to AOL Video, making our team accessible and working closely through give and take to achieve all of the client’s goals. Approaching each requirement from the end-user perspective, the collaborative effort produced a breezy, easy-to-navigate portal. Feature sets were trimmed to focus on the web site’s core offerings and to ensure tight integration within platforms such as Clip of the Day and Top Video Tags. Exploring all reasonable options, multiple design iterations were created, end-tested for usability, and then tested again to assure competency, efficiency and reliability.

The Result

A better, cleaner, more user-friendly web site capable of integrating myriad platforms and maintaining AOL Video’s position as the internet’s preferred destination for web videos.
